Volume Two

Jessica Catron, Weba, Nate Scoble and Ken Lasaine

This Volume begins with BOLD, a song that I wrote with Eastside Sinfonietta and Puttanesca bass player Ralph Gorodestky.

BOLD is the first song that I've recorded where I contributed musically beyond helping to write the vocal line. In 2001, I was sidelined from singing by hemorhagged vocal chords. I saw this time off as a gift to educate myself musically and studied piano and theory with Mark Harrison. At the same time, I started writing songs with Ralph while working with Bill Viola. While shooting Catherine's Room, I was on set, writing at a desk, and the words to BOLD came out. I was thinking about my love of water, and why the ocean terrified me so, which was appropriate at the time because so much of Bill's work is about water.

During rehearsals for our concert at the Central Library I brought out BOLD to play for Jessica, Joe and Bob Remstein. He was very encouraging about the song, and I owe it to him for bringing it into the light of day.
